baby ear piercing, piercing for children and toddlers

We offer baby ear piercing for children and toddlers.

Baby ear piercing is a common cultural practice in many societies around the world. Parents often choose to pierce their baby’s ears for various reasons, including cultural traditions, personal preferences, aesthetics and safety. However, there are important considerations and guidelines to follow to ensure the safety and well-being of the baby.

Our baby ear piercing is done by Lorena who licensed piercer and is medically trained. The ear piercing is done in our council inspected private clinic facilities using sterilised equipment

In many cultures this is a right of passage and we are sensitive to our client’s cultural needs and expectations.

How We Pierce Baby’s and Children’s Ears

Baby ear piercing is far more delicate than piercing older children and adults.   Mainly because babies wiggle and they should not be held down. Holding a child down does nothing but distress them. The baby ear piercing process is far longer and methodical than with adults.

What makes us different is that we pierce babies with a specialised piercing instrument that’s equivalent to piercing with a needle and therefore it causes minimal trauma to the young ear. The procedure takes a full hour. We use numbing cream to make the ear piercing painless and we genuinely care to make this right of passage a pleasant experience to remember.

We have a wide choice of mini ear studs in gold, stainless steel and titanium.

This procedure is only done by Lorena Oberg herself and you can expect to be with us for an hour. We are a clinic and a safe private environment. This aids to the child and parents being able to feel safe and therefore relax.  The piercing takes seconds but the process of making the child and the parent comfortable can take time.  Lorena is extremely experienced in this field and regularly pierces young Princesses and Celebrities

Baby Ear Piercing FAQ

From experience we believe 3 to 9 months is the optimal age. At this age they don't register what's going on and don't fight it. Children over a year old may say NO which means we need to stop the treatment. Sample Description
In the UK the answer is NO. Lorena found this out the hard way when her daughter was born and this is the reason she offers this treatment. In a way that she would have liked for her own child.
Whilst piercing a toddler can be done, it will depend on Lorena being able to build enough trust with the child for her to be able to take the necessary steps. Usually, if a child refuses to allow us to put the numbing cream on her ears the piercing process will not be able to proceed. Lorena does not hold children down. The goal is to make the experience tear free but toddlers often don't understand what is happening and are frightful. This is specially the case if they have been elsewhere for a piercing that has gone wrong. As a parent you know your child better than anyone and we ask you to make the call. However, the minute a child says NO, the procedure is over.
We use numbing cream to pierce babies so it's pain free. A child may still cry but it won't be from pain. From our experience of piercing ONE baby who's mother refused the numbing cream for personal reasons, it hurts. The baby cried immediately and Lorena cried with her.
Yes, we use numbing cream and it works very well.
We all know that piercing with a needle, as done in a tattoo shop, is considered the gold standard. However, holding the baby down in order to do the piercing will be traumatic for everyone involved. Our method is equivalent to piercing with a needle but it's done with a piercing instrument, not a gun. This makes it very quick and with numbing cream, painless.
We recommend 4 weeks of no swimming in chlorinated pools after piercing. Swimming in the sea after 3 weeks.
Children heal extremely fast, however, we ask that you do not change the earrings for 8 to 12 weeks just to be sure.
Sadly not. The piercing system that we use is very specific and high tech. It all comes in a sterile and encapsulate packaging so that they earrings are not touched at all.
Make sure your baby is comfortable and happy. A clean, well rested and well fed baby is generally the golden rule for a happy comfortable child.
Babies rarely get infections. The reason for this is that parents tend to take very good care of the piercing. Teen have the worst track record with a nearly 50% infection rate.

The NHS has information about piercings that will help you make an informed decision here.

The Baby Ear Piercing Process

Lorena works with your child and uses distraction techniques in order to pierce.  She does not partake in the practice of holding the child down as this distresses them.  Instead, she distract you child using YouTube videos or anything that may work.  Please bring familiar books and toys that you know your child likes.

We recommend the use of numbing cream.  We apply the cream half an hour before the treatment.  This will make the procedure painless.

Although we can’t guarantee that your child won’t cry, we can guarantee that every step will be taken to make sure that the procedure is done with minimum discomfort to both child and parent.

If you wish to have more details as to the process, you can read more on our Ear Piercing Process For Toddlers page.

Piercing Toddlers

Piercing toddlers is very tricky. Toddlers know enough to realise something is happening but are not able to understand why, how and the reason there’s fat lady wearing gloves touching her ears. Lorena is very good at gaining children’s trust but if the child says NO, the procedure is over. We respect the child’s right to their body and to remove consent to be touched.

Safety Measures

The safety of the baby or child is paramount during the ear piercing process. Before proceeding with the piercing, parents should ensure that their baby is in good health and free from any infections or skin conditions. It is also advisable to wait until the baby is at least two months old to minimise the risk of complications.

Sterilisation of equipment and proper hand hygiene are crucial to prevent infections. We wear disposable gloves and use sterile needles or instruments for each procedure. All of our earings are made from hypoallergenic materials to reduce the risk of allergic reactions. In fact, we have never had an allergic reaction.

Aftercare

After the ear piercing procedure, parents must follow proper aftercare instructions to promote healing and prevent infections. This involves cleaning the pierced ears with a solution that will be provided for you. It’s essential to avoid touching the earrings and to refrain from swimming or exposing the ears to excessive moisture until they are fully healed. You will need to agree to follow an after care regime and sign consent forms.

Regular monitoring of the pierced ears for signs of infection, such as redness, swelling, or discharge, is essential. If any abnormalities or concerns arise, we ask that you send us a picture immediately.
