Permanent Makeup Removal in London

Permanent Makeup Removal (PMU) also known as micropigmentation or microblading removal, can undergo PMU removal using both laser and non-laser techniques. We’re Permanent Makeup Removal experts covering the areas of eyebrows, eyeliner and lips.  Lorena, considered the world leader in the field, lectures at permanent makeup conferences worldwide and writes for medical journals.  We perform thousands of removals every year.  Pioneering the techniques now known as BEST PRACTICE, we have unparalleled experience in removing pigment from the face.

Why Choose Permanent Makeup (PMU) Removal?

Over the last decade, permanent makeup has witnessed a surge in popularity, becoming a go-to beauty enhancement option. However, as the demand for these procedures increases, so does the need for removal or correction due to instances of poor technique and colour choices. The best brows may also need removing at some point. As the work ages, it can take on shades of red, pink, or orange. These are the modifier colours coming through. They’re easy to treat with laser. There is also the issue of personal preference. Sometimes, “It just doesn’t look like I thought it would”,

Emergency Permanent Makeup Removal

The rise of poorly trained permanent makeup practitioners has led to a concerning increase in requests for emergency removals, especially for brows. Acknowledging the urgency and emotional impact, we now offer specialised removal procedures within the first 48 hours. Non laser removal techniques like Glycolic Acid and Saline removal protocols exhibit up to an impressive 80% success rate in the first session, ensuring swift and effective results. There are also permanent makeup fading techniques that you can start at home immediately.

Protecting the Skin During Permanent Makeup (PMU) Removal

The emphasis is on protecting the skin during removal, followed by laser methods for further fading once the skin has healed. It’s important to understand that any kind of non laser removal will be more aggressive than laser so this is when the expertise and experience of the technician is most important. Lorena, with nearly 20 years of experience in this field, is credited with pioneering many of the removal techniques now acknowledged as best practice in the industry. Lorena is world renowned for the quality of her training and still actively lectures world wide.

Permanent Makeup Removal Frequently Asked Questions

Permanent Makeup Removal Q&A

For the most part YES. What no one can guarantee is 100% removal. Most technicians are comfortable offering an 80% removal over several treatments. Some cases need more such as newer brows done with the New Generation Pigments wilst older brows made with traditional pigments are far easier to remove. Some older brows that have gone blue can be removed with one laser treatment. Newer brows may require a combination of laser and non laser treatments.
Sadly Yes. Professional Permanent Makeup removal required somehow getting to the ink, which is inside of the skin. There are no painless ways to do this. It will require either a laser or a needle. Laser is a very quick procedure whilst non laser can take half an hour. We do not recommend numbing creams etc because they get in the way of the results. The procedure is uncomfortable, but fast and the results are often seen immediatelly.
Yes, Lorena is a world expert in the field of Permanent Eyeliner Removal and teaches the only accredited course of it's kind.
The amount of treatments, and therefore length of the removal procedure will vary due to several factors. - The type of pigment used. The newer pigments on the market are permanent as opposed to semi permanent and they will require far more treatments. - The age of the PMU. Older work will come out far more easily because it will have a lower molecule saturation. - The type of skin. Some skin holds pigment more than others. - Type of removal being used. We use both laser and non laser methods and will use what ever will make the situation easier. - How deep the tattoo was placed at the time of the procedure. We can usually remove Permanent Makeup in 3 to 10 treatments.
You can take steps at home to reduce the molecule concentration but there are no effective at home removal methods. You can read more about what to do if you hate your PMU brows HERE including at home methods.
If permanent makeup goes away is a complex question. Rarely does it fade to the point where it's no longer visible to the naked eye. However, it can fade until it's barely there. Lorena has written a very detailed blog on the subject HERE.
The fading of PMU is down to a few factors. - The ink used: Traditional inks were made to fade. If you have been left with peachy, pink or orange brows after a few years post treatment you have traditional pigments. These pigments are very easy to remove by a professional. If New Generation Inks have been used, the tattoo will stay true to colour for a lot longer and it's likely to fade to grey. - Skin Type: Oily skin tends to not hold pigment as long as dry skin. - How deep the pigment was implanted is what is going to be the main variable as to if your permanent makeup fades. Pigment that was implanted deeply tends to be permanent. Lorena has written a detailed blog on permanent makeup fading HERE.
The word on the street is 3 years. The word in our clinic is that it can last for ever. What we do know for certain is that what ever you have at year 3 is what you will have indefinitely. If you're waiting for it to fade more after year 3, you may be very disappointed.
If you have only just had your brows done, it's normal that they will look very dark. The healing process will do 2 things. 1. It will scab off leaving a much softer colour behind. 2. Your skin will grow over the brow which will tone done the colour even more. Your skin colour will act as a filter for the colour. If you are really uncomfortable, send us a clear photo on our Whatapp on the bottom of the screen and we will give you our honest opinion. Most of the time it's absolutely fine.
Firstly you need to be very clear about what it is that you don't like about your shape. Is it too thick? Does it come in too much at the nose? Are the tails to long? At this point it may be useful to get a second oppinion but it is always a good idea to go back to your technitian to see what solutions they can offer you. The most important thing to be aware of, is that tattooing flesh colour pigment on top of the mistake to hide is not a solution. Getting the ink out of the skin is the only answer. Hiding the problem under more ink is not a long term solution and makes removal an absolute nightmare for removal professinals.
Exfoliating with fine sea salt at home has always been one of our secret weapons and we are thrilled that more and more people are aware of this hack. It will never remove all of it but it will remove A LOT. Whilst it may not be visible to the naked eye, it can cut laser sessions down my half. Read more in our detailed blog HERE.
Because it's meant to. The point is never to have something permanently tattooed on your face, even if this is what often happens. Pigments used to be purposely made to break down and fade (new pigments don't do this) and a good tech tattoos very lightly on the skill allowing the natural skin shed to aid to the fading. Fashions change and so should your Permanent Makeup
Yes you can. You need to allow a minimum of six weeks before you do. Your skin will thank you for it and your results will be nicer on fully healed skin
Absolutely not! Well, not at our clinic. We have nearly 20 years experience perfecting this craft. We utilise a bespoke laser that is very gentle on your skin. We hit you with just enough power to wake up any dormant hair follicles but not enough power to kill the follicle. So yes, you will have more hair after a month. Some hairs present may be a casualty of the treatment, turning white, but we try to save any hairs and they will re grow in a month.
No, but you may be self conscious about swelling and redness that could persist for a couple of days. However, you can get on with your daily activities.
Although it's a very low risk procedure, we are not fully aware of how the ink is expelled though the body. For this reason, and as a precaution, we do not touch anyone pregnant or breastfeeding.
Yes but both of these sensitive areas require a high degree of expertise as well as patience. Please send us pictures via Whatsapp
If you experience adverse reactions such as severe pain, excessive swelling or signs of infection it's important to contact your technician immediately. No question is too small for us. We will advise you and monitor you to make sure that everything is going according to plan. Even complications are easy to treat if we know in time.
Yes. This is where experience counts when working on dark skin tones. We have seen this quite a bit coming from other clinics but we are very aware of how to work on dark skin tones. Lorena has written a detailed blog on Permanent Makeup Removal on Dark Skin. You can read it HERE.
Yes, we can target very small areas of the brow with Lorena's expert steady hand. However, most of the time when we get this request, the reality is that the entire brow needs to come off.
Yes it can. We do need to consider that on overly saturated brows you may not see any visual results for the first 2 to 3 treatments. We will get through the pigment with perseverance.
Sometimes results can be seen instantly but other times the body needs time to expel the molecules. We know that the areas will continue to fade for 8 weeks or even longer. We ask that you have patience to allow your lymphatic system to do it's thing.
We have had great success with non laser methods extracting the ink safely. However, we need a very detailed consultation and treatment plan in order to not cause further problems. We need to do this under medical supervision.
Often, permanent ink can be easier to remove than PMU ink, specially if it's low quality. We will do a test patch and tell you immediately what treatment you will need. Usually laser will work well but we may need to use non laser removal methods as well.
Yes, in fact, the older the tattoo the easier it is to remove. This is because the ink concentration will be a lot lower due to general time related fading as well as lower quality pigments being used.
Individuals with certain skin conditions or medical concerns may need to consult with a healthcare provider before undergoing permanent makeup removal. Conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, or a history of keloid scarring may require special considerations.

Lasers and Equipment in Permanent Makeup (PMU) Removal

This sort of work requires the most up to date equipment as well as expertise in healing and scar management. There is no room for error when performing work on the face.  Our lasers are bespoke and made for us. They are gentle yet effective and therefore can be used on all skin tones.  Please see examples of this in our Permanent Makeup Before and After page.

Will I Permanent Lose My Eyebrow Hair With Laser Treatment?

No. Not if we perform the treatment. The combination of our gentle bespoke Q Switched ND Yag lasers and Lorena’s vast experience will mean that your hair follicles are safe. In fact, dormant follicles are often shaken back to life by the controlled trauma to the area. Some of the hairs that you have on your brow already may turn white as a result of the procedure but worry not, they will all grow back withing 4 to 6 weeks stronger than ever.

Laser Removal: Precision and Effectiveness

Laser permanent makeup (PMU)removal, using our bespoke Q-switched Nd:YAG laser, gives us a powerful tool for very dark and heavily pigmented brows and eyeliners. Contrary to common misconceptions, this laser is not the same laser used for hair removal. It’s exceptionally safe for use on brows and eyeliners when used by a tattoo removal expert. Our laser offers extremely fast results with less downtime compared to other methods.

We employ laser removal for various purposes, including “colour switching”. Addressing concerns like brows turning red or ashy is part of removing tattooed brows. Brows that have gone red over time will instantly turn dark again.

Lorena Oberg: Pioneering a Multi-Disciplinary Solution

Lorena Oberg has specialised as the UK’s premier clinic for Permanent Makeup Removal. We understand the need of offering both laser and non laser solutions. Different situations require different paths to removal. Whether using a custom-built laser or a non-laser solution, our approach is tailored to individual skin types, pigment colours, and placement depths. We use a combination of techniques ranging from the Q Switched ND:Yag laser to non laser techniques such as saline or glycolic removal in order to correct and/or remove the pigment. Correction of tattooed eyeliner and eyeliner migration is particularly delicate.  More information on removal of eyeliner and migration here.

Non Laser Tattoo Removal Methods

Speaking from extensive experience, most non laser methods, essentially, work in the same way and do the same thing. You would have heard of tattoo removal creams, glycolic, saline, and clay removal. Technicians use the method the feel most comfortable with and get good results with. It may be very tempting to try removal at home, however, the potential problems that can result is not worth the risk. This is your face, leave it to a qualified professional. The emotional impact of regrettable permanent makeup is great, this is not the time to leave it to chance, specially if you have a darker skin tone which requires a higher level of expertise.

Lorena Oberg, recognised as the world leader in this field, tours internationally, delivering lectures at Permanent Makeup Conferences.
